I wrote three fics for Yuletide!

My main assignment was Crush, for klose, which is basically light casefic where Midnighter and Dick Grayson flirt shamelessly and there is a lot of discussion of Dick's ass. My betas (Blue and reallyyeahokay) saved my BUTT on this one, because casefic is hard, you guys.

And then I wrote [personal profile] the_rck a treat in the Librarians fandom which puts Jenkins in 1800s France, visiting a famous deathbed: and you'll outlive all you love. I would've hated to write it as a main assignment but as a treat I felt safe going a little tear-jerky. (I owe it all to the canon for a few throwaway lines I glued myself to.)

Last but not least I wrote a fic for one of our fabulous pinch-hitters, elospock: Rememorari, a post-canon Shining (the movie) fic, with a glimpse at grown-up Danny Torrance.

It was a fun year! I'm going to sign up for Chocolate Box too, because that's a 300-word minimum.

I might even try to do more LJing this year. No promises!

I realize I forgot to show off my Yuletide fic! It's a really fun gen fic for Stand Still, Stay Silent, a delightful post-apocalyptic webcomic (which is one one HELL of a cliffhanger atm).

A Pause in Drowning. Check it out if you know the canon! (And go read the canon.)

Thank you for writing for me! If you like these fandoms, we must at least have something in common, right?

In case you're wondering about what I like in general, this is basically what I stick on every Yuletide letter:

Here are some things I like: Humor, drama, snark, romance, smiling in the face of absurdity. (You can probably tell from my requests.)

Here are some things I don't like: Character bashing/needless sideswipes at characters, noncon. I read some dubcon but am weirdly fussy about it, so if you don't already know me it'd probably be easiest not to write it.

I am agnostic about porn: if you want to write it, great! If you don't want to write it, great! I have indicated pairings in my requests where I have them but I like gen too. (In fact, Yuletide is one of my favorite places to get my gen fic.) Porn preferences lean toward m/m.

I love friendship, found families, and all the fandoms I nominated.

Prompts are just suggestions. Feel free to write from your own inspirations!

I got a lovely gem of a story from Better Call Saul, with a hint of Breaking Bad: The niche.

Unfortunately, I didn't actually manage to write any treats this year, but my recipient really loved her main gift, so Yuletide winning is still mine!

And thanks again to everyone who offered to beta...btw, if you need a Hot Fuzz beta, my flist the a place to be. :D (I did not write Hot Fuzz.)

Here is my Yuletide letter! I will add to this if anything comes up, but much of it is my usual Yuletide letter, if you are a friend who has matched with me (hey, it could happen).

Thank you for writing for me! If you like these fandoms, we must at least have something in common, right?

I got an awesome story for Yuletide--an awesome backstory for Wreck-It Ralph, with a lot of cool worldbuilding too.

Becoming Virus, only 1300~ words but with a lot of character work and thought put into it. Thanks again, astraev!

I wrote three stories for the main archive and two for Madness:

Try, Try Again (Is the Title of Santiago's Sex Tape), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where I take a perfectly good joke and run it into the ground. (Written before the Eric Garner non-indictment and the tensions exposed between mayor and PD. I'm not going to note it on the fic itself but it...felt a little awkard, unfortunately.)

Continuing my tradition of writing Rh Plus for any sucker who requested it, I wrote Let Me See what Spring Is Like on Jupiter and Mars for [personal profile] daegaer. Vampires in spaaaace!

And I decided to try a fandom I'd never tackled before and wrote Daken fic. Reset is a tale of survival, no matter how reluctant.

For Madness:

Bisou, Bisou is Princess Bride fic, the story of Inigo and Fezzick's first kiss. All the Princess Bride fics this year were good, in main Yuletide and Madness, and I find myself wanting to just roll around in Princess Bride-ness.

A Watch and a Fresh Pair of Socks is Jackrum's thoughts at retirement, from Monstrous Regiment and heavily influenced by learning what the original inspiration Jackrum probably was (the sergeant in All Quiet on the Western Front).

I also signed up for [community profile] getyourwordsout again, and pledged to write 300,000 words this year. I made it last year...let's see if I can repeat. Maybe this time I'll even keep up with my flist and stuff.

Fics!

Don't forget to check out the Weiss Kreuzmas stories! The ones I've read so far are great.

I received Good Intentions, a funny and bittersweet and slightly heart-wrenching Nagi/Mamoru story.

I wrote You Can't Make an Omelet Without Breaking Some Telepaths, about Crawford's work to get Schuldig in place.

Hilariously, Slate then published this article about how violent and terrible that idiom is. Yes, yes it is. That's why it was the perfect title. Hahah.

Then there was Yuletide!

A reminder to read my gift fic, The Ghost of the Grand Hotel, if you know Twin Peaks. Don't let the typo in the summary put you off, it's really, really good.

I wrote three stories:

Due Diligence, a prequel Tiger and Bunny fic about Kotetsu and Tomoe as they wait for Kaede to arrive.

I wrote a fun little RPF AU trifle, To Go and Boldly Raid Someone Else's Cargo, where Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are space pirates, because how could I resist writing that, people.

And then there was the first fic I started, back when letters went up, and the last fic I finished, because the ending! The ending almost killed me. The Not Entirely Accurate Chronicle of John Polidori, Genius Physician and Brilliant Writer, and His Rather Less Distinguished Companions is from the point of view of the physician who accompanied Lord Byron on his rather infamous trip to Geneva, where Byron had a lot of sex and Mary Shelley started Frankenstein.

This was...I think the biggest Yuletide hit I've ever written, guys. And I did it with historical RPF. Go figure. I just got an email that's been podficced, man. IDEK.

I do know I owe my betas big-time, especially [profile] edonohana, who helped me end the Poldori fic and assured me that, yes, it was funny. Guess she was right, huh.

Hello all! I received a WONDERFUL Yuletide fic. It is about Josie and you all should read it NOW.

The Ghost of the Great Hotel, Twin Peaks, AWESOME. Its structure is just brilliant, if you know the canon at all. (If you don't, I'm afraid it doesn't work as well, as this is just neck deep in the people and setting and canon events. IT'S SO GOOD, GUYS.)

I also enjoyed this World War Z fic, Zack Don't Surf, despite not knowing the canon beyond reading half a sample chapter on a Kindle at Best Buy the other day.

There might be more recs later but I wanted to rec my Yuletide fic as soon as I had time and brain to do so...so here it is!

Yuletide!

lady_ganesh: Fire Emblem/Nathan and a flame (hot stuff)
Reveals are more than out and I still haven't read all I wanted to. Oh, Yuletide.

I ended up writing a whole bunch.

The Main Event

I had Annakas as my assigned recipient, and we matched on Rh Plus. The request was great, we shared some favorites...and it took me forever to get a concept I liked. The first two didn't feel enough like canon to suit me. I ended up focusing on one thing we both had in common: A love of Masakazu and Konoe's stupid competitions. I asked myself, "Self, what's the dumbest thing you can think of for teenage boys to compete over?"

The answer was arm wrestling, and Too Wise to Woo Peacably was born!

And then I started worrying that the fic wasn't Konoe-centric enough, so I went back to one of my old drafts and realized that I actually had a halfway decent story there. So I wrote Years Go Falling for annakas too.

And then I realized that there were only two people who requested Rh Plus this year, and [personal profile] daegaer didn't have an Rh Plus story, so I wrote First Taste about Michitaka and Kiyoi.

I also wrote Sleep on the Left Side for [personal profile] opalmatrix, because no one else had written a TJ & Amal story yet, and that was a crime.

we make midnight a maquette of the year was for [personal profile] nyargles, because she wanted Billy and Tommy bonding and I needed to write that so much, I can't even.

Treats!

...yeah, I wrote a lot for Yuletide. Felt good, I've been pretty slow/blocked/meh.

Security. is a fake Veridian Dynamics commercial for samalander, from my beloved (and cancelled) Better Off Ted. I miss that show. Less than a ficlet, I guess, but it was fun! I loved picking out the pictures.

As Yami was a Yuletide fandom, possibly for the first time, I wanted to write something in it. All I managed was Craving, for [personal profile] ranalore.

And one of my favorites this year is Despite Appearances, a very short fic I wrote from the trailer for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Yes, I know it's ridiculous! But my recipient, [personal profile] meinterrupted, saw the trailer in the same way I did, and so I wrote in hopes the movie will be as delightful it looks from that tiny glimpse.
lady_ganesh: Sousuke Sagara looking at a butterfly (oooh pretty)
Black Books!

Go read it: Twilight of the Living Dead. Thanks, mystery author, I loved it!
lady_ganesh: Rupert Graves, as Lestrade, smiling (grin)
Sam from iCarly joins SHIELD.

Thank you, [profile] poor_choices!

And I have my Yuletide story at beta! Frabjous day!
lady_ganesh: Fire Emblem/Nathan and a flame (nathan)
Thank you for writing for me! I must say your choices in fandoms are awesome.

Below is my letter with some additional notes and where to find the sources, in case you're curious about a fandom we didn't match on. (I have mostly included US sources, because that's what I know.)

Under the cut )

In case you're wondering about what I like in general, this is from last year (and hasn't really changed):

Here are some things I like: Humor, drama, snark, romance, smiling in the face of absurdity. (You can probably tell from my requests.)

Here are some things I don't like: Character bashing/needless sideswipes at characters, noncon. I read some dubcon but am weirdly fussy about it, so if you don't already know me it'd probably be easiest not to write it.

I am agnostic about porn: if you want to write it, great! If you don't want to write it, great! I have indicated pairings in my requests where I have them but I like gen too. (In fact, Yuletide is one of my favorite places to get my gen fic.)

I love friendship, found families, and all the fandoms I nominated.

All my Yuletide nominations were approved, and Kreuzmas is coming! Yay!

Dreaming of a [info]weiss_kreuzmas? Coming soon to a f'list near you!
lady_ganesh: Tenpou and Hakkai (five hundred years)
It's the second-most wonderful time of the year, the time when you give credit to your betas and trawl for more hits by posting links to your work.

In no particular order:

I wrote two stories for [community profile] weiss_kreuzmas:

Five Dumb Things Yohji Did (And One that Turned Out Pretty Great) for [personal profile] red_squared. Thanks to [personal profile] lindentreeisle and [personal profile] emungere for betaing this one.

For the bonus round I wrote Sight of Passage for [profile] oracle_dreams. Red and Linden both pulled beta duty on this one.

For the [profile] wk_100 drabble exchange I wrote Ken and Yohji on an unexpected picnic. (Thanks to [personal profile] dormouse_in_tea for catching that I had the wrong character there, yikes!)

And then Yuletide! I wrote one assigned story, two treats, and three Madness fics. (I guess taking a year off really did bring my mojo back.)

Uncertain of All was my assignment (Konzen-centric, Saiyuki Gaiden). I'd had mixed feelings about offering Saiyuki Gaiden, because I write it anyway and it seemed bigger than most of the things I write for, but I figured the franchise rule was the franchise rule, and I knew I could certainly do a good job on it. I felt even better when I saw cease's request letter and found out she loved Konzen and wanted something Konzen-centric. Sold. Thanks to Linden (yeah, I know, it's cause I'm always on chat with her ♥) and [personal profile] nekonexus for doing beta work.

Under the cut 'cause this got long )

Yuletide!

lady_ganesh: Ageha giving the victory sign (ageha (RH plus))
Merry Christmas to all those celebrating! Happy Movies Day to everyone else. ;-)

Time to thank/recognize my gift fics:

Captive Monsters actually went up a few days ago. It's a Weiss Kreuz AU by [personal profile] daegaer, and is just as awesome as all her fics (and uses a very clever conceit).

Understanding is a lovely drabble with Yohji and Omi by [personal profile] vr2lbast.

And then Yuletide! I still don't have my notification email, but realized I could find my fic if I looked under "My Gifts." I landed on the pinch hit list and for the first time got two stories, and they're both great!

boring is a relative state of mind is American Horror Story fic, set after the conclusion of the first season. It features Violet, one of my favorite characters from canon (and maybe the only sensible one), and does a great job of looking at her mental state after everything she's been through. I was a bit worried about getting fic in this fandom after all the twists and turns canon took, but this is just perfect. ♥ EDIT: Also this was a late addition to the pinch hit list and you totally can't tell, it's beautifully constructed.

A Practical Method of Italian Singing is a treat, and what a treat! It features the two ladies who basically run off together towards the end of The Count of Monte Cristo. (You can read this one without knowing the canon but then it's a bit spoilery.) It's so clever, and there's music theory and historical context and it's pretty perfect too. ♥

Thanks to everyone who wrote for me!

FUCK YES

In what has to be a record, my Yuletide story is posted.

THANK YOU BETAS YOU ARE AWESOME.

Now to finish my second Weiss_kreuzmas fic. And maybe think about a treat or two. :D
lady_ganesh: Anissa has a test tube and great enthusiasm. Be afraid. (trust me (KKM))
Thank you, writer! I love Yuletide and am happy I am participating again this year (I took last year off).

Thank you so much for writing for me this year!

Fandoms under the cut, if anyone cares )

SECOND EDIT special bonus for my writer if they're writing AHS and the crazy roller coaster that is ongoing canon.

Yeah, this show has gone crazy, Jossed expectations several times, and has me still uncertain about Tate. But that's okay! I trust you, Yuletide writer. IT WILL BE OKAY.

THIRD BONUS EXTRA ROUND: New updates regarding AHS under the cut, as I saw my name on the pinch hit list.
