I am watching the 1979-80 BBC (I think? English anyway) Dick Francis' The Racing Game, starring Welsh actor Mike Gwilym as one of my favorite fictional detectives, Sid Halley.
It ranges from slightly laughable to pretty decent, and Gwilym is actually really good as Halley. The show is also quite pleasantly slashy and has loads of h/c fodder, so. You know. That's my jam.
But the real reason I'm here is to observe how much we have lost with modern cellphone technology. The plot to the last episode actually hinges on trying to get a message to a racetrack. Sid ends up chartering a helicopter to get to the course on time. So many exciting action sequences have been ruined by tiny little cellphones, guys!
EDIT: Another thing I love is that the lives of the horses are generally seen as at least as important as the lives of the humans. (To be fair, the horses are much better-natured and spend far less time kidnapping and/or killing one another.)
